Mia Griffin has become the first Irish woman to ride and finish the notorious Paris-Roubaix

The twenty-four-year-old Glenmore native was part of 104 riders who completed the course over the weekend. Paris–Roubaix is a one-day professional bicycle road race in northern France, starting north of Paris and finishing in Roubaix, at the border with Belgium. The cyclist who applies her trade with Israel Premier Tech Roland was among the survivors on a dramatic day of racing.

Griffin suffered a crash just before the race reached the first pit section and although she turned around and managed to pick up the main field in the third sector, she suffered a second problem almost immediately. Griffin hit a pothole and had to wait on the side of the road for a new bike.

Paris–Roubaix is one of the oldest races of professional road races. It was first run in 1896 and has stopped only for the two world wars and the Covid 19 pandemic.

In the end, Mia finished in 83rd place, some 13:36 down on winner Alison Jackson after 145.4km of racing
