Scoreline Morning Report

It’s Monday all over again so let’s take a look at some of the stories doing the rounds on KCLR and Scoreline.ie for the start of the week.

Carlow held

Beginning with Gaelic Games and hurling was deemed the real winner yesterday as a much-improved Carlow were held to a draw in Austin Stack Park with hosts Kerry scoring an injury time point to tie up what had been a cracker of a game in round two of the Joe McDonagh Cup.

Carlow did have a five point lead at one stage in the second half before Kerry clawed their way back to secure a 21-point draw. Speaking to KCLR, manager Tom Mullally knows they could have got more out of the result and you can hear his reaction on the latest edition of the Scoreline Extra podcast, out now.

They’ll play Laois this coming Saturday with the neighbours having put 7-24 past Down yesterday giving manager Willie Maher his first win. Division 2A League finalists Kildare were beaten for a second straight week, losing out 2-22 to 3-11 against Offaly.

Camogie final heading for a replay

Saturday saw Kilkenny’s intermediates also held to a draw against Cork with a late point from the Leesiders in a close game forcing a replay – these things happen in national finals. That game is likely to be heading back to Clonmel Commercials, this coming Saturday with a 3pm throw-in though the finer details should be confirmed today. Speaking to KCLR, manager Shem Kelly feels they very much left the game behind them and again, you can hear his reaction on the latest Scoreline Extra podcat below.

Kilkenny’s minors were back in the winner’s enclosure yesterday with a resounding 4-15 to 2-7 win over Dublin in the minor A championship.

Carlow’s successes at senior level appear to be rubbing off on the minor grade too with the county’s rising stars picking up a 3-12 to 1-10 win over Kildare in Fenagh yesterday afternoon, booking themselves a place in this year’s All-Ireland semi-final in the process.

It was a massive weekend on the Feile front too the hurling and camogie Féiles taking place in both Kilkenny and Carlow. We’ll be looking at those on Full Time later this evening with a round-up here on Scoreline.ie too but congratulations this morning to Naomh Brid for taking the Division 1 camogie title in Carlow, Dicksboro taking the Division 1 title against Tullaroan in Kilkenny yesterday, with Conahy Shamrocks and Barrow Rangers also successful in the U15 hurling over the weekend.

Tonight sees three games in the Bolger Cup in Carlow as Ballinkillen host Naomh Eoin, Mount Leinster Rangers entertain Naomh Brid while Bagenalstown Gaels make the trip to St. Mullins. Games are underway from seven o’clock.

The Cental U17 Spring League is also underway in Carlow this evening while in Kilkenny, the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre minor hurling leagues move into round 4 with games around the county also underway from seven o’clock.

Thomastown bow out

Thomastown are our of this year’s Leinster Junior Cup at the quarter-final stages, Callum Keane scoring the only goal of the game on Sunday as Old County moved into the semi-final stages. The Dubliners will now play Gorey while Kilkenny’s Freebooters take on Trim Celtic in the other semi-final.

‘Booters are also through to the semi-final stages of this year’s KCLR McCalmont Cup after beating Fort Rangers 3-0. They’ll play Bridge United in the next round, a few weeks on from having beat them 3-1 in the Pat Maher Shield.

Both Vale Wanderers and Crettyard United are through to the semi finals of the Keating Memorial Premier Cup following wins over Parkville and St. Pat’s Boys yesterday. You can find a full round-up of the results online this morning at Scoreline.ie.

Premier League latest

Man United are up to third in the Premier League following a fairly routine 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest yesterday while Arsenal dropped another two points in the title race with a 2-2 draw against West Ham.

There’s one game in the league tonight with Leeds hosting Liverpool from eight o’clock where oddly, the result could have huge implications for both sides.
