Carlow and Kerry shared the spoils in an epic second-round encounter in the Joe McDonagh Cup at the weekend.

Carlow at one stage led by five points in the second half before Kerry made a comeback with the game ultimately ending in a draw at 21 points each due to a Micheal Lehand score in injury time.

Speaking to Brendan Hennessy after the game, Kerry manager Stephen Molumphy praised his side as he was ultimately happy to get something from the game;

“They never go away, they give up and they never panic. It was important too. If we lost that game by a point it was a massive loss, to be honest, it would have been hard to go again. We are delighted to get the draw there at the very end. Carlow might be a little deflated after, each weekend teams will take points off each other.”

Carlow’s next opponents are none other than close rivals Laois who registered their first win under manager Willie Maher at the weekend and what a result it was hitting 7-24 against Downs 20 points. Elsewhere Offaly got the better of David Heritys Kildare with a 2-22 to 3-11 win.

Among all three fixtures, there were some great games and interesting results, however, Molumphy believes the competition does not get the respect it deserves from The Sunday Game;

“It doesn’t get enough coverage. You know what I could never get over, The Sunday Game. They always go through Division 4 in all the football games.”

“They only show Division 1 in the hurling, small tidbits of Division 2. We never see Division 3. Why are they not included? We would love to see how they are getting on. It was a great spectacle.”
