Kilkenny Senior and Under-21 hurler James Maher is hopeful to return to training within the next month.

James is recovering from a working accident which currently leaves him sidelined, and speaking at the launch of the Leinster Under-21 Hurling Championship.

The St Lachtains man broke his kneecap after his father hit a gate he was leaning on with a JCB throwing him into the air and landing on his knee.

However James says he is progressing well in his recovery.

“I’m just hoping to get back (to Senior and U21 hurling) to play for both of them, looking forward to the U21 now, its coming up soon, so hoping to get back soon enough”

“It depends how the recovery goes now myself, im off crutches and all and back doing a bit, a bit of cycling and stuff in the gym so hopefully get back running and training in the next four or five weeks maybe”.

He was speaking at the launch of the Bord Gáis Energy U-21 Championship 2016.

The Cats play Westmeath in the Bord Gáis Energy Leinster U21 Championship quarter-final on May 25th.
