FOOTBALL

The neutral venues for the third and final group round of this year’s Tailteann Cup have been fixed.

Carlow’s senior footballers won away to Wicklow in the open round of the competition before taking a 1-19 to 0-14 defeat to Limerick over the weekend.

All third round games head to neutral venues with Carlow bound for Laois Hire O’Moore Park in Portlaoise. Throw-in is set for 3pm at Sunday June 4th, the game preceded by the meeting of Limerick and Wicklow at 1pm.

Only a win for Carlow will be enough to see them through to the knockout stages.

It is semi-finals night tonight in the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Championship.

Defending champions Dublin face Offaly at Glenisk O’Connor Park from 7.

And Hawkfield hosts the clash of Kildare and Meath from 7.30.

CAMOGIE

The All-Ireland series gets underway this weekend with the intermediate series starting on Friday.

Leinster champions Kilkenny have been drawn away to Dublin while beaten provincial finalists Carlow are on the road to face the 2021 All-Ireland champions Antrim.

Carlow manager Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere says that while last weekend’s Leinster final took a toll on his side, he’ll have a full squad ready to go.

One team they don’t have to worry about this season though will be Kildare. It was confirmed last week that the county have been withdrawn from the All-Ireland series following an apparent breakdown between players and the Kildare camogie board.

The Camogie Association have since said all parties are “committed to undertaking an independent review of all matters pertaining to the preparation and participation of inter county camogie teams representing Kildare”.

KCLR analyst and former All-Ireland winning captain with Kilkenny Áine Farrell says the whole situation is quite sad.

You can hear a full discussion on the Kildare situation, last weekend’s Leinster finals and this weekend’s All-Ireland series games on this week’s edition of the Camán Caint podcast, with a new episode available this morning.

The KCLR Cumann na mBunscoil finals are taking place this week. Monday night saw one final going ahead with Bennettsbridge claiming the Roinn E title over Danesfort.

The big action of the week though is on Sunday with five finals taking place at Young Ireland GAA grounds in Gowran.

It all begins at 11 on Sunday morning with the Roinn F decider between Conahy and Moneenore before Tullaroan and Paulstown meet in the Roinn D final at 12.30pm.

St. Aidan’s in Kilmanagh are in the Roinn C final against Freshford, that game going ahead at 2pm while Tullogher take on Coon-Muckalee in at 3.30pm in the Roinn B final.

The last game of the day goes to the Roinn A final between Clara and Bunscoil Macauley Rís of Callan. Throw-in is at 5pm.

Admission on the day to those attending is €5 with a souvenir programme being produced for the day as well. We’ll have updates from Gowran on air this Sunday.

HURLING

Tipperary are said to be reviewing the punishment proposed for hurling manager Liam Cahill.

He’s set to have no involvement in their next two games after a 4-week ban was suggested by the C-C-C-C.

Cahill’s been punished for comments made towards linesman James Owens in last weekend’s drawn game with Limerick.

If the ban is upheld, Cahill can have no involvement before or during Tipp’s game with Waterford, nor a potential Munster final appearance.

SOCCER

There’s no place for Evergreen’s Lee Delaney at the Irish Amateur squad for this year’s Regions Cup.

Delaney had been included in Gerry Davis’s squad for a friendly against the Basque Region at the start of the month but hasn’t been included in the final 20-man squad heading to Spain in June.

Ireland will take on hosts Galicia, Bavaria and Zeina-Doboj of Bosnia-Herzegovina

In soccer, Carlow & District Football League secretary Brian O’Reilly is stepping down as Juvenile Fixtures Secretary after 15 years in the role.

During that time, the juvenile section has grown from 5 to 15 leagues, including the introduction of five girls leagues from under 9 through under 16.

O’Reilly remains on as Honorary Secretary and will oversee the end of season awards for the league, slated for the Seven Oaks Hotel on Friday June 9th.

After securing European football at the weekend, Brighton bid farewell to their home fans this evening.

Premier League champions Manchester City visit the Am-Ex Stadium, with kick-off at 8.
