The 2023 JJKavanagh & Co Senior Hurling Club Championship started in Netwatch Cullen Park last night with a tie between St. Mullins & Ballinkillen.
The defending county champions game away with 3-18 to 1-11 victory to open the championship how they left last year, with a win.
The other two games are going ahead Friday night with Naomh Eoin meeting Mount Leinster Rangers in Netwatch Cullen Park and Bagenalstown Gaels clashing with Naomh Brid in Netwatch Training Centre in Fenagh.
Speaking to Scoreline Gagenalstown Gaels player Craig Doyle highlighted the improvement in the team year after year since the amalgamation of Erins Own, St. Andrews, and Muinebheag in 2019.
Also last night in Carlow, two titles were awarded.
In the Division 2 final Clonmore and Eire Og played out a 1-13 to 2-13 game, with the crown going back with Eire Og While in the Division 5 final St. Patricks scored 4-14 to Ballons 3-10 to capture the crown.

The North London clubs continue to be the big spenders so far in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal last night confirmed the 65-million pound capture of German international Kai Havertz from Chelsea.
Declan Rice will soon follow Havertz to the Emirates, with West Ham accepting Arsenal’s 100-million pound bid for the midfielder.
