Kilkenny will face old rivals Cork in Sunday’s All-Ireland senior quarter-final.

Brian Dowling’s side advanced to the knockout stages on Saturday evening following a 2-08 to 1-11 draw with Tipperary in UPMC Nowlan Park.

Speaking to KCLR after that game, Kilkenny manager Dowling said it’s crucial that his players are prepared for this weekend.

Throw-in at Croke Park is 1.30pm this Sunday.

That encounter takes place before Kilkenny’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship semi-final clash with Clare.

We’ll be building up to the match all week on KCLR with a special preview programme from Brogan’s on John Street from 6-8pm this Friday.

We’ll also be based in Rafters ahead of the game on Sunday afternoon, with thanks to Rafters and MW Hire, and we’ll be hearing from a whole host of Kilkenny legends across the weekend as well as getting the opinions of one or two Clare All-Ireland winners.

The opening round of the JJ Kavanagh and Sons Carlow Senior Hurling Championship was completed this weekend.

Bagenalstown Gaels proved too strong for Naomh Brid with Eddie Scally’s charges winning on a scoreline of 4-22 to 3-10.

Mount Leinster Rangers edged out Naomh Eoin by 0-15 to 1-10.

St Mullins began the defence of their crown with a comfortable defeat of Ballinkillen during the week.

Speaking to KCLR’s Scoreline, St Mullins manager Maurice Aylward said that he is concerned about the condensed nature of this year’s championship.

Dunnamaggin have won the JJ Kavanagh and Sons Junior A Hurling League after a 1-20 to 1-14 victory over Mullinavat in yesterday’s final.

James Stephens claimed the B League with a 2-19 to 1-09 defeat of Bennettsbridge.

There are several games in the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre Minor Hurling League this evening with details of all the fixtures on Kilkenny GAA’s website available now.

Carlow have claimed their first victory in this year’s All-Ireland Ladies Junior Football Championship following a 6-11 to 2-06.

Meanwhile, Kilkenny fell to a heavy defeat away to Down.

Mullinavat have once again been crowned JJ Kavanagh and Sons Kilkenny Senior Football Champions after a 3-07 to 1-09 win over Thomastown in Friday’s final.

It’s a second consecutive title for Michael Aylward’s men and a sixth in seven years.

They now have yet another provincial championship to look forward to in the Autumn.

Reigning champions Kerry will face Derry in this year’s All-Ireland football semi-finals.

Derry advanced to the last four yesterday, courtesy of a 1-12 to 1-8 win over Cork.

Dublin are to meet Monaghan, after Dessie Farrell’s side beat Mayo by 2-17 to 11 points.

Both semi finals will take place at Croke Park.

The Dublin – Monaghan game will take place on Saturday July 15th at 5.30pm.

The Kerry – Derry encounter has been scheduled for Sunday July 16th at 4 o’clock.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic is among the players in action on day one of Wimbledon.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner meets Argentina’s Pedro Cachin this afternoon.

Fourth seed Jessica Pegula plays in the first of the matches on court in the women’s singles.

World number one Iga Swiatek faces Zhu Lin this afternoon.
