Soccer

St Patrick’s Athletic lost 2-1 to Dudelange in their Conference League first qualifying round first leg tie in Luxembourg last night, but Mark Doyle’s late goal gives the Saints hope ahead of the second leg in Dublin next week.

In the competition today, Dundalk plays Bruno’s Magpies in Gibraltar from 5 pm Irish time this evening, with Derry City facing HB Torshavn in the Faroe Islands from 7.

Locally St. Canices Football Clubs’ search for a new manager is over

Eddie and Mikey Clifford stepped away from the club after doing the double for the second successive season.

The club now find themselves in the Premier Division and former Callan and Evergreen manager Eddie McEvoy will be leading the charge for the city side.

Transfers

Jordan Henderson is leaning towards a move to Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle remain locked in talks with Leicester over Harvey Barnes, with the Magpies pondering an opening offer around the £30m mark.

Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign former Chelsea star Joao Felix.

Conor Gallagher could be priced out of a move to Tottenham with his current club Chelsea wanting up to £50m for the England midfielder.

Rugby

Ireland captain Jonathan Sexton will face a disciplinary hearing today arising from his behavior towards the match officials at the Champions Cup final between Leinster and La Rochelle in May.

The province are also in the dock for ‘failing to exercise reasonable control’ over Sexton.

If Sexton receives a ban it would affect his participation in Ireland’s World Cup warm-up games and maybe even the tournament itself.

Ireland faces Italy, England, and Samoa before the tournament begins against Romania in France on September 9th.

TENNIS

It’s women’s semi-finals day at Wimbledon.

Elina Svitolina of Ukraine faces Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, with Tunisian Ons Jabeur to play Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.

The play begins on centre court at 1.30.
