GAA
New York claimed the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship yesterday afternoon following a 0-13 to 1-09 defeat of Kilkenny in Croke Park.
A second half Mick Kenny goal was not enough for the 2022 champions as late points from Shay McElligot and Brian Coughlan saw Johnny McGeeney’s team triumph in the competition for the first time by the narrowest of margins.
Speaking to KCLR after the game, Kilkenny manager Christy Walsh said the tough test against London in Friday evening’s semi-final proved too much for his team.
Meanwhile, New York selector Kevin Moriarty could not hide his delight following the Exiles victory.

Moving onto this Sunday’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling final and the build up is continuing on KCLR to Kilkenny’s clash with Limerick.

There were two games last night in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Carlow Senior Hurling Championship.
The opener saw Bagenalstown Gaels get the better of Naomh Eoin by 1-16 to 2-11.
The second game of the evening in Netwatch Cullen Park was less competitive with Ballinkillen easing to a 2-21 to 1-10 defeat of Naomh Brid.
There are two games in the Cental Under 17 Carlow Football League tonight with Asca playing host to Michael Davitts and Eire Og making the trip to Myshall to take on Naomh Eoin.
Both of those games throw in at 7 o’clock.
In Kilkenny this evening, the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre Minor Hurling League continues with a number of games down for decision across the county.

This year’s All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final will be a repeat of the 2019 decider.
Dublin are set to take on holders Kerry in a fortnight after the Kingdom got the better of Derry in yesterday’s semi-final at Croke Park.
Jack O’Connor’s side scored five of the last six points to win by 1-17 to 1-15.
RUGBY
Johnny Sexton will miss all three of Ireland’s Rugby World Cup warm-up matches but he’ll be available for the World Cup opener against Romania on September 9th.
The Leinster out-half has been given a three-match ban for ‘confrontational and aggressive behaviour’ towards match officials at May’s Heineken Champions Cup final.
TENNIS
Novak Djokovic’s ten year winning run on Centre Court at Wimbledon came to an end yesterday.
He lost 3-sets-to-2 to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles final.
20-year-old Alcaraz became the youngest man to win the championships in 37 years.
It’s his second Grand Slam title after claiming the US Open last year.
Athletics
Waterford’s Paul Ogle came first in the Kilkenny triathalon yesterday finishing on a time of 58 minutes and 27 seconds.
Aine Kineslla was best place in the female category with the Waterford athlete finishing in a time of 1 hour and six minutes.
