There was a shock in Ballyhale as the Shamrocks began the defence of their crown with a defeat to Glenmore. Elsewhere yesterday’s action saw Tullaroan fall to O’Loughlin Gaels and Mullinavat defeat Danesfort.

The first games of the weekend took place on Friday evening. James Stephens claimed a victory over Graigue Ballycallan, while Bennetsbridge were nine-point winners over Erins Own.

Despite making it to the final of the league last season, Bennettsbridge went out at the quarter-final stages of the Championship to eventual finalists James Stephens by five points. Speaking to KCLR after that game, Bennettsbridge manager Tim Dooley said that his team is rebuilding.

“We’re very happy with the win, it was hard fought and you always get that with Comer.”

“We’re very happy because we’ve a young team and we’re trying to rebuild and with a few big names missing. That’s what we’re about this year though, rebuilding.”
