It’s a brand new week, so let’s take a look at some of the headlines doing the rounds on KCLR this morning.

It was county final day in Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday as Mount Leinster Rangers took on last year’s champions St Mullins. Rangers had come into the game as massive underdogs but took a lead into the break goals from Tobin, Chris Nolan and Fiachra Fitzpatrick the difference.
St Mullins came back into the game with a goal from Jason O’Neill but, in truth, Rangers were never going to relinquish the lead and ran out 3-19 to 1-17 winners to claim the JJ Kavanagh & Sons senior county title. Chris Nolan was awarded man of the match with a total of 1-9.
MLR will now have to wait until the weekend of 11/12 November to play the Kilkenny champions in the Leinster Senior club championship.

From the Kilkenny perspective, we had five live games across the weekend
In our first game on Friday night, Dicksboro made it two wins from two when they defeated city neighbours O’Loughlin Gaels out in the Kells road on a final score of 1-20 to 1-17. In our second game, Bennettsbridge failed to capitalise on their opening victory when Graigue Ballycallan beat the ‘Bridge men by three points on Saturday afternoon also from the Kells road, Graigue Ballycallan bouncing back from their opening defeat. That one finished 0-17 to 0-14.
Also on Saturday night, Erins Own and Ballyhale Shamrocks shared the points with a gripping 1-20 draw. Both teams getting their first points on the table with Erins Own and Ballyhale both losing their opening games. On Sunday, Glenmore made it two wins from two when they got the better of James Stephens, Glenmore holding on in the end by just a single point in an end-to-end encounter in Thomastown. The Village men, managed by Brian Cody, just ran out of time and lost by the narrowest of margins. Glenmore saw that one out 2-18 to 0-23.
In the last of our live games in Kilkenny, Clara had too much for Danesfort as they ran away with a ten-point victory in Bennettsbridge. It was a good bounceback for Clara having lost their opening game to Disksboro. Check out also How things stand after round two of the league end of the championships.

Rugby
England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Wales at the weekend in another warm-up game before the World Cup next month but they look set to be without captain Owen Farrell for the opening game at a minimum after the out-half was red carded for a head-high tackle. He was initially given a yellow card but a review in the bunker upgraded it to a red card.
