The St Canice’s Credit Union Kilkenny Senior Hurling League continued at the weekend, There was wins for Tullaroan, O Loughlin Gaels, Ballyhale Shamrocks and Dicksboro while Bennettsbridge and James Stephens played out a 0-10 each draw on Friday night in horrendous weather conditions.

The annual Hurling For Cancer Research charity game takes place for the first time ever takes place tonight in Carlow’s Netwatch Cullen Park.

Camogie
The Camogie leagues got underway at the weekend with fourteen games over the weekend. In the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai league there were wins for Dicksboro and Young Irelands, last years champions Thomastown came a cropper against Tullaroan, while Windgap and last years Intermediate champions James Stephens played out a thrilling 1-14 draw.
In the Shaws Department store ICL there was wins for O Loughlin Gaels, St Lachtains, Ballyhale, St Claires and Lisdowney. Round two games will get underway this weekend
Sailing
Bennekerry’s Finn Lynch has qualified for the 2024 Games in Paris following the Men’s single-handed event at the Allianz Sailing World Championships in The Netherlands at weekend
The Carlow sailor was rewarded with a place at next summers Olympic Games after he had secured a 23rd finish overall and 15th by nation, having finished 19th of eighty in race nine and 38th in race ten, he thought he had failed in his bid to qualify until he got ashore to be told the good news by his team.
Rugby
Andy Farrells home win record continues after his side defeated England 29-10 at the Aviva stadium on Saturday. Keith Earls celebrated his 100th cap milestone with a spectacular try which helped Ireland beat England for the fourth time in a row and stretched their winning streak to a record-equaling twelve games.
England for the second game in a row were reduced to fourteen men when Billy Vunipola’s was sent off for a dangerous tackle. Vunipola and Owen Farrell will find out their World Cup fate after being summoned to face rugby’s judiciary tomorrow (Tuesday)
Andy Farrell will name his 33 man world cup squad next Monday, he told reporters after game on Saturday “Obviously we have stuff going on in the back of our mind [around selection],” he said. I don’t know what’s going to go on in Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday or Friday with the captain’s run over there in Bayonne. All sorts could happen so keeping people connected is important but we’ve obviously got a good idea of how that’s going to unfold.”
Golf
Norway’s Viktor Hovland fired a stunning final round of 61 to win his fifth PGA Tour title in the BMW Championship, while Rory McIlroy finished fourth. Mcilroy and Hovland were playing together in the final round but the Irishman but he was unable to stay in contention on the back nine as Hovland flourished. McIlroy spoje with the media afterwards “I felt like I played very average out there next to Viktor,” McIlroy said. “He [Hoveland] played amazing.
“I was marking his card in there and I’m like, ‘oh, you only made one four on the back nine, the rest threes’, so it adds up to a nice little 28 for him. It was great to see.”
