The Kilkenny native missed out on the World Cup Finals this year due to the injury she picked up last October
Ellen Molloy re-signed for Wexford Youths this month for the 2023 seasons having made her WNL senior debut with the Youths in 2020.
Six weeks before the end of the 2022 season the Kilkenny native picked up an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injury in September against Treaty United after just 24 minutes into the first half. Back in February this year Molloy had just begun her rehabilitation to get back on the pitch playing the sport that she loves. up to that she was playing her best football, the league was going great for Wexford, she was part of the Irish Womens Squads, she had completed her Leaving Cert and was going to college (UCD) studying radiography. All of a sudden, it all stopped.

She wasn’t picked for Vera Pauw’s historic trip to the Irish Women’s team first first-ever appearance in a major tournament as they qualified for the 2023 World Cup Finals in Australia.
Now ten months on from that injury Molloy has reached her goal and got back to playing football again, at the weekend she was introduced as a 66th-minute substitute for Wexford Youths in their 4-0 win over Sligo. Let’s hope Ellen can get back to the heights she was before her injury cut her season short
