The St Canice’s Credit Union Kilkenny Senior Hurling League came to a close on Saturday.

Group B was straightforward with Dicksboro defeating Tullaroan, O’Loughlin Gaels overcoming Danesfort and Clara getting the better of Mullinavat to avoid a relegation semi-final and send their opponents into one.

Those results meant Dicksboro topped the table with O’Loughlin Gaels finishing second.

Tullaroan secured third, Clara finished fourth and Mullinavat and Danesfort will both have to face relegation semi-finals.

Group A was ever-changing on Saturday afternoon. Ballyhale Shamrocks made a late comeback to earn a 5-17 to 2-26 draw with James Stephens, however, the sharing of points was not enough to take the county champions out of the relegation semi-final.

Kilkenny inter-county star and Shamrocks man Eoin Cody was named KCLR’s Detail Menswear Man of the Match. Meanwhile, Cody’s fellow Kilkenny teammate Cian Kenny said James Stephens will need to learn how to hold on to leads.

Kilkenny’s Eoin Cody: “I looked at myself personally after my performances, they were a wake up call”

“Good game, very good game. The Shamrocks are a great team. The individuals that have are outstanding as a team, and they come together nicely.

“We’ve probably just let it slip the last few minutes of the game. We can’t let that happen in games going into the future, because when you have a lead on the team, it’s all about keeping your foot on and pushing on, but we didn’t do that.”

“I’m just honest with you, we didn’t do that, but we’re happy overall. We are where we wanted to be when we started off and that’s being in a quarter in three weeks.”
