It’s been building and bubbling for a while, but the Red Bull Longest Day, Ireland only 5-a-side hurling and camogie tournament is back this weekend and ready to descend on the grounds of Kilkenny Castle.
Danesfort and Kilkenny’s Richie Hogan leads the way alongside Galway rival Joe Canning and Cork’s Ashling Thompson as 24 hurling and 16 camogie teams from around the country will go head to head to be crowned the Red Bull Longest Day Champions.

For those going along, there is no parking at Kilkenny Castle on site, but you may find limited parking either on the Castle Road outside the park or in the nearby Ormonde multistorey car park (Q Park) or Dunnes Stores car park along Bateman Quay (3-4 minute walk from the park).
Recognising, however, that Ireland have a vital Euros game against Belgium at 2pm on Saturday afternoon, there will be a break in play for the game. Nearest you’ll get to the park for the match will likely be Left Bank on the Parade, but you’ll have plenty of options with virtually every bar in town showing the game on all manner of screens.
What is the Event days schedule?
- 9am – 10am – Team Registration
- 10.30 am – 1.45pm scheduled matches
- 2pm – 4pm break for Ireland Euros match
- 4pm – 10.00pm scheduled matches
- 10pm – 10:30pm Red Bull Longest day final
There may still be a chance to nip in a late registration but for those already in the mix, the prize pool is a good haul – a trip to an international Red Bull event or a pre-season training camp to the value of €5,000, a session with world-renowned strength & conditioning coach Mike McGurn and a set of 10 Canning Hurleys.
