It’s Monday, we’re back after a busy weekend where we brought you four live games, so let’s take a look at the headlines from the weekend from the KCLR sports desk.
We’ll kick off with Gaelic games, there was a big day yesterday as UPMC held the two senior hurling semi-finals, last year’s champions went up against Brian Cody’s Village, in a game that served up a whopping eight goals when the sides met in the league, Shamrocks had too much for James Stephens and came away with an easy win to keep them on track for a record sixth title in a row. Who would they face in the final?
Well Bennettsbridge and O Loughlin Gaels served up a cracker of a game in the first game yesterday. Bennettsbridge came into the game with great hope that they could reach the biggest day of hurling in Kilkenny. In a bruising encounter it was the City side of O Loughlin’s who came out on top by just three points in the end, the old cliché of goals wins games proved to be the case as they put three past the Bridge. The county final will be played on Sunday 29th October in UPMC Nowlan Park
This weekend will see the Junior County Final take place as Tullogher Rosbercon will go up against St Lachtains, the Freshford men will be hoping to get promotion after coming down from the Intermediate grade last year. Tullogher Rosbercon will be in their way as the black and amber of both sides clash for the title, both teams coming through their respect semi-finals at the weekend.
Camogie down to Final stages
The Camogie scene is also down to the last few games at adult level, on Saturday the senior semi-finals took place that saw Dicksboro have a narrow win over Piltown while Windgap had eight points to spare over Barrow Rangers to reach their first ever County Final. In the Intermediate grade Mooncoin will also contest this final like their hurling counterparts as they will face Rower Inistioge in the first of a double header on Saturday.
Rugby
Ireland and France are out of this year’s World Cup as they both lost their respective semi-finals over the weekend. Ireland lost out to New Zealand in a classic game on Saturday night as the All-Blacks ran out 28-24 winners to book their place in the semi-final where they will face Argentina. It was the last time we’ll see Johnny Sexton or Keith Earls in an Irish jersey as they both retire from International duty. France narrowly lost out by a single point to the Springboks as they booked a semi-final spot against England, South Africa beating the hosts by just a single point 29-28.
