GAA

James Stephens defeated Thomastown in the Duggan Steel U15 A Hurling Championship Shield Final last night

The Village came away with the title after a 2-21 to 1-06 victory

Elsewhere the Camogie Association will be trialing proposed rule changes in the upcoming season with aims to help the flow, skill, and fairness of the game while maintaining player safety.

Among the changes include a Quick Puck Out, the permission of shoulder-to-shoulder contact, and sideline pucks can be taken from either the hand or the ground when the sideline is within their own 45-meter line.

Soccer

Republic of Ireland international James McClean has called on the Irish Government to invest more in domestic football.

McClean, Seamus Coleman, and Gavin Bazunu have helped with the launch of a pilot scheme to provide 30 thousand euro for sporting and educational scholarships for two young players next year.

The aim is to create 310 scholarships for boys and girls over the next five years.

Bundesliga clubs are penalizing players for their support of Palestine.

Mainz suspended Anwar El-Ghazi for his pro-Palestine Instagram posts last weekend.

The Dutch winger, whose family was originally from Morocco, shared won’t be allowed to train with his clubmates.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich says they’re planning a detailed conversation with their Moroccan full-back Nouassir Mazraoui (pr: Maz-row-ee) regarding his social media support of Palestine.

England have booked their place at next year’s European Championship finals in Germany.

They beat Italy 3-1 in Group C at Wembley last night, with Harry Kane scoring twice.

Northern Ireland lost 1-nil to Slovenia in Group H at Windsor Park.

Kilkenny’s Karen Duggan will have to wait until November 11th to lift the SEE Airtricity Premier League trophy

The Peamount captain secured the title last weekend by defeating Wexford, but the team will be presented with the title of the final league game of the season.

Rugby

Former Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll has backed Keith Earls to thrive in his life after rugby.

The winger confirmed his retirement today, barely two weeks removed from his 36th birthday.

Earls was a Grand Slam winner with Ireland in 2018, won a Champions Cup with Munster and three league titles.

Cian Healy may return for Leinster once the United Rugby Championship resumes this weekend.

Their opener is away to Glasgow.

The prop missed Ireland’s World Cup campaign with a foot injury.
