Thomastown are the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Intermediate champions
They took on Mooncoin yesterday at UPMC Nowlan Park in sunny conditions, and came away with a 1-29 to 0-17 points win. It’s after taking the club five attempts to get back to the promised land of Senior hurling, but they are back. They will now go on to represent Kilkenny in the Leinster Intermediate club championship and Face Cloughbawn of Wexford on 11th November in Wexford.
On Saturday Tullogher Rosbercon got the better of St Lachtains in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior hurling decider also at UPMC Nowlan Park. The men from the South went into the game as underdogs with St Lachtains tipped to win the game from early in the year but you never rule out the underdog!
They had a 1-19 to 0-17 win in the final, they will now also go onto the Leinster club championship where they will face St Patrick’s of Wicklow next Saturday at a Kilkenny venue.
On the football from it was disappointment for Mullinavat in the 2023 AIB Leinster Club Intermediate Football Championship round 1 as Ballyllnan came away with a 1-14 to 0-7 win over the Kilkenny side.
Elsewhere in Carlow, Éire Óg have set up a mouth watering tie against All-Ireland champions Kilmacud Crokes in the Leinster Club Senior football championship after the Carlow side got the better of St Joseph’s after extra-time to claim victory.
Clonmore unfortunately lost out to St Malachy’s in their first round game in the 2023 AIB Leinster Club Intermediate Football Championship round 1. The Carlow champions lost out by four points in the end to bring their club campaign to an end.
Rugby
New Zealand will face Sout Africa in this years Rugby World Cup final in Paris on Saturday. The All-Blacks got the better of Argentina on Friday night while the Bokke’s had a hard fought one point win over England on Saturday night.
Elsewhere test centurion Courtney Lawes has decided to retire from England duty following the Rugby World Cup loss on Saturday night. The 34-year-old’s bid to finish his international career. he made 105 international appearances across 15 years.
Camogie
Dicksboro have been crowned Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Senior Champions once again after defeating Windgap in last weekend’s County Final played in Mooncoin. The venue was changed at last minute due to the weather forecast. The pitch in Mooncoin held up very well and it made for a great game of Camogie. The Boro were defeated in last year’s decider, but this years they came back with a bang and have reclaimed their crown. They will now face St Martins of Wexford in the 2023 AIB Leinster Club Senior Camogie Championship semi-final on November 4th.
Meanwhile The Rower Inistioge are also celebrating a win as they claimed the Shaws Department Store Intermediate Championship final after they defeated Mooncoin in a thriller on Saturday afternoon. In what was very defensive and low scoring game both teams ended up level at full time. The game went to extra-time and The Rower who were runners up last year just had too much in the tank and came away with a 1-11 to 0-12 victory. Like Dicksboro they will now represent Kilkenny at Leinster level and will take on Buffers Alley on Saturday in the 2023 AIB Leinster Club Intermediate Camogie Championship semi-final

Manchester United fans have flocked to Old Trafford to pay tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton following his death on Saturday aged 86.
Charlton was a key member of England’s victorious 1966 World Cup team and also enjoyed great success at club level with United, he was part of the team who became the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968. Charlton was also brother of former Irish Soccer manager Jack.
United led the tributes, saying in a statement: “Manchester United are in mourning following the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the greatest and most beloved players in the history of our club.
“Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world.
