Limerick dominates PWC GAA/GPA All Stars, Kilkenny holds strong with five nods

The PWC GAA/GPA All-Stars for 2023 have been announced, and once again, the dominance of All-Ireland senior hurling champions Limerick is evident with seven players making the prestigious team.

Meanwhile, Kilkenny, a perennial force in the hurling arena, secured five spots, showcasing their continued prowess. Let’s delve into the lineup and explore the standout performers from these two powerhouse counties

Limerick’s Magnificent Seven


Limerick’s outstanding achievements in securing a historic four-in-a-row All-Ireland senior hurling championship title have been duly recognized in the PWC GAA/GPA All-Stars lineup. The seven players from the Treaty County who have earned their places are Diarmuid Byrnes, Dan Morrissey, Kyle Hayes, Darragh O’Donovan, William O’Donoghue, Tom Morrissey, and Aaron Gillane. These exceptional players played pivotal roles in Limerick’s remarkable journey to their recent triumph, showcasing skills, determination, and teamwork.

Kilkenny’s Strong Presence


Kilkenny continues to maintain its strong presence in the All-Stars team. The five players who have earned this prestigious recognition are TJ Reid, Eoin Murphy, Mikey Butler, Hugh Lawlor, and Eoin Cody. TJ Reid, in particular, adds another All-Star to his illustrious collection, securing his seventh nod. This achievement further solidifies Reid’s status as one of the game’s all-time greats.

Clare and Galway Represented


While Limerick and Kilkenny dominate the All-Stars team, Clare and Galway also have notable representatives. Jon Conlon and Shane O’Donnell from Clare have earned their places, showcasing the talent and skill present in the Banner County. The final spot in the lineup goes to Galway’s Conor Whelan, highlighting the contribution of players from different counties to the overall excellence of the sport.

Hurler of the Year Contenders


Diarmuid Byrnes, Kyle Hayes, and Aaron Gillane from Limerick have further solidified their stellar status by earning nominations for the prestigious Hurler of the Year award. Their exceptional contributions throughout the season have not gone unnoticed, and the race for the ultimate individual honor in hurling is sure to be closely contested.
