Carlow Man Padraig Amond has signed for Hartlepool United from Grimsby Town.
The 28-year-old scored 37 goals for Grimsby Town helping the Mariners’ promotion from the National League.
Town offered the Irishman new terms at the end of last season but Pools boss Hignett quickly identified him as a target and has managed to persuade him his future lies at Victoria Park.
Amond began his career as a schoolboy with Shamrock Rovers where he spent three years before joining Sligo Rovers at the end of 2009, continuing to find the net on a regular basis.
After a stint in the Portuguese top flight with Pacos de Ferreira, he returned to England on a season-long loan with Accrington Stanley in August 2011, making the move permanent the following summer.
In the summer of 2013, Amond sealed a move to Morecambe following a successful trial and he went on to hit the net 19 times in 50 appearances for The Shrimps before moving on to Grimsby at the start of last season.
