As the excitement builds for this weekend’s AIB GAA Club Hurling All-Ireland Junior Championship Final, Tullogher Rosbercon’s Walter Walsh is well aware of the monumental challenge ahead.
The Kilkenny and Leinster champions are set to clash with Saint Catherines of Cork at Croke Park, aiming to secure the coveted All-Ireland title.
Walter Walsh, a familiar face in the Tullogher Rosbercon ranks, reflects on the bitter taste of defeat from 2009 when they faced Dripsey of Cork in the Junior Club All-Ireland. Walsh, who was only 17 at the time, vividly remembers the three-point loss and recognizes the significance of this rematch.
“It was 15 years ago when I was 17 years of age. We went up in the Junior Club All Ireland, and a Cork team beat us that day. Dripsey beat us by three points. So that’s something that’s in my memory,” Walsh recalls.
With a mix of experience and fresh talent, Tullogher Rosbercon is gearing up for what promises to be a grueling showdown at Croke Park. Walsh acknowledges the tough challenge ahead and emphasizes the need for the team to be at their absolute best to secure victory.
“Myself and Pat Hartley, centre back with us as well, we played that day. We’re the only two left. Part of our management team who played that day as well. So we’re under no illusions. It’s a really, really tough challenge. And to win, we need to be playing at our best,” Walsh emphasizes.
The All-Ireland Final on Saturday evening at 5 pm will be a defining moment for Tullogher Rosbercon. Having triumphed in both the county and Leinster championships, they now stand on the brink of securing the ultimate accolade.
The question looms – will they emerge victorious, adding the All-Ireland title to their list of achievements, or will they face a significant defeat for the first time this season?
