Fionan Mackessy, Kerry hurling star is set to join All-Ireland hurling club finalists O’Loughlin Gaels, bidding farewell to his current club, St Brendan’s.
His achievements include being the first Kerry man to clinch the National Poc Fada title and securing spots on the 2022 Sigerson and Fitzgibbon teams of the year.
Mackessy’s departure marks a loss for St Brendan’s, where he showcased exceptional talent from a young age. His contributions, including an All-Ireland minor football title with Kerry and representation in three Joe McDonagh finals, underscore his impact on the club.
Confirming Mackessy’s departure with Kerrys Eye, St Brendans club chairman Ger Hussey expressed the club’s acknowledgment of the loss, stating, “Fionan will be a massive loss to St Brendans because he was always a player well ahead of his time.” Reflecting on Mackessy’s contributions from a young age, Hussey conveyed the club’s best wishes for his new journey, adding, “I told him if he ever wants to come back to St Brendans, we will welcome him back with open arms.”
