The countdown to the 2024 hurling championship kickoff has begun, and fans hope that they can have all eyes on Kilkenny’s very own TJ Reid, as Derek Lyng’s men go against Antrim at UPMC Nowlan Park on Sunday, with the action starting at 2:30 pm.
With a career spanning over a decade, Reid’s impact on the game is undeniable, marked by numerous accolades including seven All-Star awards and won his first Leinster medal in 2007 as part of the panel when Brian Cody led Kilkenny to a 1-12 – 2-24 victory over Wexford. Despite being ruled out due to injury from the league final loss to Clare, Reid, at 36, remains undeterred, emphasizing that age doesn’t define his performance when speaking to KCLR earlier this week;
“Age is a number, you have to be able to perform,” Reid asserts. “No matter what age you are, if they can’t perform at 36, or if they couldn’t perform at the age of 32, you’ll retire. I think every athlete knows if they can’t go out and perform the way they used to, that’s the day to retire. That hasn’t come to me yet, thankfully, but that day will come.”
