Last weekend Galway and Kilkenny clashed in the latest Leinster Championship encounter, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
The match, which unfolded with intense fervor, ended in a deadlock, with the final scoreline reading Galway 2-23 to Kilkenny’s 29 points.
Kilkenny surged ahead with a two-point lead as injury time loomed large on the clock. However, a pivotal moment emerged when Conor Whelanstepped up to the plate during added time, delivering a crucial point that ultimately salvaged a draw for his side.
Reflecting on the nail-biting encounter, Shefflin remarked, “The match always felt it was very tight, that’s the sense I got of it.” Despite Kilkenny’s commendable performance in patches, Shefflin acknowledged the frustration of not being able to secure a victory outright.
“We had phases where we played well and we got some lovely scores and put some nice play together,” Shefflin remarked before highlighting the significance of the home support in salthill stating, “Your home venue should matter and I think it did because truthfully I think without the support there at the end we wouldn’t have come back and got the draw.”
Carlow is up next for The Cats while Shefflin leads his side to face Wexford in Round Three of the Leinster Championship.
