Offaly clinched the Joe McDonagh Cup, defeating Laois with a scoreline of 2-23 to 26 points.

This victory not only brought immense joy to Faithful County but also secured their place in the Leinster championship next season, marking a significant achievement for the team following on from their Under 20 All Ireland success.

Adding to the weekend’s excitement was the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, where Offaly native Shane Lowry competed. Lowry finished with a total of 12-over after a challenging final round of 85. His varying display on Sunday sparked curiosity, with some speculating whether his beloved Offaly’s Joe McDonagh Cup victory the day before influenced his performance.

On the day of the final, Lowry had posted two eagles on the 1st and 14th holes. His connection to Offaly and the GAA was evident in his pre-tournament comments. Speaking to Scoreline’s Oisín Langan during the week, Lowry passionately expressed his dedication to his county:

“I love it. I say sometimes I live for GAA. I’m always checking what time the games are on. I already know what time the games are on US time at the weekend, so I know what I need to do with regards if I need to get a late tee time on Saturday, which I do need this week. Offaly, we’re in the Joe McDonagh final on Saturday, and they’re playing at 10.45 US time, so I need a late tee time on Saturday. I want to get to watch that.”
