This week’s episode of the award-winning Caman Caint podcast features an exclusive interview with Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, who recently stepped down as Kilkenny Camogie manager after a brief one-year tenure.
Cleere, who took charge of the team last year, discusses his decision to leave, the challenges faced during his time, and his assessment of the team’s future potential.
In the interview, Cleere addresses his departure, citing other commitments as a primary reason for stepping down. “If I didn’t have the other commitments that I have, I 100% would love nothing more than to be continuing that job with those girls,” Cleere stated. Local Councillor Peter “Chap” Cleere, has announced his intention to stand as a candidate in the coming general election.
He emphasized the progress the team made under his leadership, describing the players as highly receptive to the coaching and challenges they encountered. “They’re a fantastic group of players, and I know that core group will actually go from strength to strength. There’s definitely an All-Ireland in that team.”
Cleere’s resignation was communicated to the Kilkenny Camogie Board last month, marking the end of a season that saw Kilkenny fall short of expectations. The team’s campaign came to an abrupt halt in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship quarter-finals when they were knocked out by Dublin in a surprising defeat.
