Bennettsbridge coach Dan Shanahan has praised the resilience and determination of forward Liam Blanchfield, whose crucial contribution helped the team overcome Tullaroan in the St Canice’s Credit Union Kilkenny Senior Championship Quarter-Final over the weekend.
The Bridge triumphed after extra time with a final score of 2-26 to 1-23, with Blanchfield finding the net as one of the goal scorers.
After the game, Shanahan told KCLR about the extraordinary effort Blanchfield made to play, despite injury:
“I think Liam has been questioned a lot in Kilkenny, but I work with Liam Blanchfield, I know how good he is. He’s on one leg today, he’s in a boot for his ankle, couldn’t train—he trained in runners on Tuesday and in boots for the first time on Friday. He got an important goal, and I’m so delighted for the man. Again, if the ball was more direct going into Liam, I think he’d get that more. Something to work on.”
Blanchfield’s goal was a key moment in the match, as Bennetsbridge battled past Tullaroan in an intense, hard-fought contest that went into extra time.
