Kilkenny man and former Olympic boxer Mick Dowling says that no Boxing Coach in Ireland could do the job that Billy Walsh did.
The Irish Boxers finished the Olympic Games without a medal despite high hopes and expectations, and Mick told KCLR that the full effects of his departure last October was hit badly in Rio……
“Billy was a big big important link in that chain”
“He was the main link in it and if you take the main link out of a chain your in serious trouble, and I know I am quoted as saying before, you don’t see Kilkenny getting rid of (Brian) Cody or Dublin getting rid of Jim Gavin so that’s the simplest way I can put it and I know there are lots of people out there will say, oh we have plenty of coaches as good as Billy Walsh, no you haven’t”
“You have plenty of good coaches yes, but you have nobody that I don’t think at the moment that would be able to do the job he was doing”
