Carlow’s two rugby teams Carlow and Tullow, have been placed in the same side of the draw in the South East League Cup for the new 2016 – 17 season which kicks off on Sunday August 28 next.
This is the first time in nearly a decade that the two clubs will face each other in the South East competition.
Along with Carlow and Tullow their side of the new SE draw also includes Kilkenny, New Ross and Arklow. The other half of the draw includes Wicklow, Gorey, Enniscorthy and Wexford.
The games open on August 28 when Carlow host New Ross and Tullow travel to Kilkenny.
The first clash of the two Carlow sides will take place at Tullow’s Black Gates grounds on Sunday 18th September.
For the coming season Tullow will again feature in Section 1B of the Leinster League whilst Carlow will be one division below them in Section 2A.
The new Leinster League season kicks off on Sunday September 25 next. Tullow will open with a home game against last season’s Towns Cup Winner Wicklow. The other teams in Tullows Section 1B include Portlaoise, North Kildare, Mullingar, plus the Dublin sides Suttonians, Clondalkin and Coolmine.
Carlow will also embark on their Leinster League campaign on Sunday 25 September with an away encounter with Cill Dara. The other sides in Section 2A for the 2016-17 Leinster League season include Newbridge, Portarlington, Edenderry, Roscrea, Longford and Railway Union in Dublin.
