Last week we brought you the Carlow Senior Football Team of the Year which got the whole county debating!
This week its the Hurling selection.
Again this is based on the entire championship and not just the latter stages and after kicking the lard out of each other over some selections here’s the team myself and Joe Nolan went with in the end!
1. James Carroll (Erin’s Own)
Carroll was steady between the sticks and pulled off some fantastic saves, none more so than in the two semi final games against Mount Leinster Rangers.
2. Paul Doyle (St Mullins)
Very few people got the better of Doyle this year.
3. Michael Ryan (Ballinkillen)
Ryan was so consistent for club and county this year and very few got the better of him
4. Andrew Casey (Erin’s Own)
Such a sticky defender, uncompromising and didn’t give an inch all season.
5. Richard Kelly (Mount Leinster Rangers)
Very solid for all year, not always in the limelight but done the simple things right over the course of the year and gave away very little scores.
6. Paudie Kehoe ( St Mullins)
An automatic selection at centre back, such a great reader of the game.
7. Alan Corcoran (Erin’s Own)
Was outstanding this season and excelled at centre back in the latter stages.
8. Sean Whelan (Ballinkillen)
Seanie played very well across various lines of the field this year for Ballinkillen and performed well enough regardless of where he was stationed.
9. Jack Murphy (Mount Leinster Rangers)
Done very well during the group stages and scored two vital points against Erin’s Own in the semi final replay win.
10. Marty Kavanagh (St Mullins)
The two time Hurler of the year maintained his tremendous form this year and got some vital scores at vital times, the goal in the county final being one of many.
11. Seamus Murphy (St Mullins)
Absolutely outstanding this year, picked off some wonderful points during the semi final win over Naomh Eoin and scored a wonder goal in the county final.
12. Denis Murphy (Mount Leinster Rangers)
Gave his all for MLR this year as captain and kept plugging away even when he missed the odd free or two.
13. Craig Doyle (Erin’s Own)
Doyle was Bagenalstown’s chief marksman this year. Scored a crucial goal in the semi final to force a draw and if he hadn’t gone off injured in the replay then Erin’s Own may have reached a county final.
14. Eddie Byrne (Mount Leinster Rangers)
Colossal on the edge of the square for Rangers, and at times looked unstoppable
15. James Doyle (St Mullins)
A huge candidate for Hurler of the year. Doyle performed as good as any hurler in the country this season and on an off day was still capable of picking off two or three points from play.
