Now that the Carlow Club Championships have drawn to a close it’s time to have a look back at some of the most memorable moments from this season.
Everybody will have their own personal highlights, but here’s a few that stood out for me.
Hughie Gahan’s Catch

Gahan’s performance for Old Leighlin against Tinryland in the Carlow SFC Quarter Final was sensational.
This sort of hang time wouldn’t look out of place in the NBA!
Seamus Murphy’s Goal In The Carlow Senior Hurling Final

As I described in the commentary, St Mullins played ‘Samba Hurling’ in the build up to Murphy’s goal and the finish was right out of the top drawer.
David Reid’s Goal In The Carlow Senior Football Final
Anyone who was in Netwatch Cullen Park for the Carlow Senior Football Final will remember David Reid’s goal for many years to come.
A sweeping move involving a flurry of quick passes between the Palatine forwards presented Reid with a goal chance that he calmly put away, but the build up play was as good as you will see anywhere.
The Two Man MLR Full Forward Line V Eire Og
The Shock of the Championship was undoubtedly Mount Leinster Rangers’ victory over Eire Og In the Senior Football Quarter Finals.
The Byrne brothers – Eddie and Diarmuid – caused mayhem for the Eire Og defence in a two man Full Forward line and it proved to be a telling factor on the day with MLR prevailing at the expense of the championship favourites.
John Michael Nolan’s Point V Clonmore
This point was as good a score as I have ever seen at a football match anywhere in the country!
Naomh Eoin were playing into the Supermac’s Drive Thru end (As I christened it on commentary this year!) against Clonmore in the Intermediate Football Semi Final and John Michael Nolan had possession right out on the sideline under the stand.
The towering Myshall man let rip with the right boot and curled over a sensational score which gave his side the impetus to go on and reach the Intermediate Football Final.
