Joseph O’Brien says his Triumph hurdle winner Ivanovich Gorbatov will improve as the season progresses.
Speaking to KCLR from his stable in Piltown yesterday, Joseph was happy with his seasonal debut in Punchestown on Sunday.
“He ran well the weekend, he finished 3rd. Davy Russell was very happy with him. There was a heavy fog and it was hard to see the race so I didn’t see too much of it, but Davy rode him and he was very happy getting off.
He takes his racing well and hopefully he will do that this year and hopefully he will get better with each run. I suppose he a stone or that to find so that’s a lot of improvement to make but listen he will run his race and he will be in the big races so we will see what happens”
O’Brien also reckons it will be a good debut season as a trainer if the horses stay healthy and run consistently.
“If some of the three-year-olds have a successful season and we have a couple of novice chasers, if some of them do well too, I suppose this time of year you want everything to win and you want everything to win Grade 1s, but that doesn’t happen so if we just have a good year and keep the horses healthy and they run well consistently for the next few months, that will do us”
