Carlow Senior Football manager Turlough O’Brien says the attitude of football within the county has changed for the better.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s National League opener away to Westmeath, Turlough says their is no reason why they can’t get promoted out of Division 4 and continue to progress further.
“I think we have changed the mindset in the county”, he suggests.
“I think people really want to play for Carlow now and they see that we can make progress and as I’ve been saying for a long time, there are as good footballers in Carlow as there are in any other county in the country.”
“It’s just a matter of belief and application. There is no reason why we can’t compete with those teams in Division 4, there is no reason why we can’t compete with those teams in Division 3, but it’s a matter really of applying ourselves on a consistent basis over a period of time and looking to improve all the time.”
“It’s not just settling for moral victories or anything like that because we have to try and go win these games so hopefully we will be contesting very strongly for promotion.”
Carlow get their 2017 Allianz National Football League campaign off to a start against Westmeath in Cusack Park, Mullingar, this Sunday at 2pm.
