It was a bad day at the office for Kilkenny.
Having lost to Waterford in the opening weekend of this year’s Allianz National Hurling League, the Cats travelled to Cusack Park, Ennis, to take on Clare on Sunday.
Out-manned and out-gunned, Clare defied the analysts, the bookmakers and most others too to notch up a 2-19 to 0-12 win over Brian Cody’s men.
Former senior hurler Eoin Larkin, who only departed the inter-county scene late last year, was critical in his assessment of Kilkenny’s performance.
“Not good enough from Kk.still reliant on experienced lads. Younger lads need to have the attitude NEVER give up.too many standing around”, said Larkin on Twitter following the result.

KCLR’s Adrian Ronan deemed the league “gone” for Kilkenny at this stage of the campaign in the closing stages of today’s commentary.
The game also marked Brian Cody’s biggest loss in all 216 league and senior hurling championship games.
