Thomastown United manager Stevie Walsh says he wouldn’t trade his bunch of players for anyone.

Speaking to KCLR after Saturday’s Leinster Senior Cup victory over Shamrock Rovers, Stevie says the squad deserve immense credit for the sacrifices they have made.

“We train them and that but a lot of credit has to go the lads. I mean we train two nights a week, and a lot of them lads train other nights on their own.

“I have never in the four years (in charge) had to tell anyone to stay in on Saturday night. They give up their Saturday nights there and they are working during the week and it’s the only night they have that they can go out where they don’t have to work the next day, and they give it up and that takes an awful lot of commitment.

“That’s what they are all about, I wouldn’t like to have any other bunch of players” he said.

Meanwhile Thomastown United Captain Andy Kavanagh says the local community created a great atmosphere on the day.

Speaking to KCLR after Saturday’s victory, Andy says it was memorable to be part of a team that defeated the giants of Irish Soccer.

“I suppose it is up to other people to say it’s the biggest win in the history of Kilkenny. I am sure other teams will kind have their idea of what that was, but we are delighted that we were part of a team that beat Shamrock Rovers.

“We have to thank everyone in the club, the committee but also the local community for coming up and supporting us.

“There was a fantastic crowd here and they created a great atmosphere for us which always helps when you are trying to be intense and keep closing lads down and when you hear lads shouting and roaring you on, it’s definitely a big help” he said.
