Wexford 2-11 – 0-9 Kilkenny
FIRST-half goals from Nicole Fortune and Brid Gordon laid the foundation as Wexford inflicted a first defeat since last April on Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division 1 and All-Ireland champions Kilkenny.
Linda Bolger added nine points at the Naomh Éanna facility in Gorey as the home side prevailed by 2-11 to 0-9.
Michelle Quilty opened the scoring for the Noresiders and though Fortune kicked the sliotar to the net for Wexford, their opponents shot four points without reply to ease ahead. Bolger steadied the ship with a brace of points though and when Gordon struck, Wexford had a lead they never looked like giving up.
They led by 2-4 to 0-7 at the interval and Kilkenny could make no inroads in the latter period, managing just two points as the Wexford defence in which Ciara Storey excelled once again held firm, while Bolger split the posts regularly to cement the victory.
Carlow 1-03 – 0-10 Kilkenny
In Division 2, Carlow had home advantage for the derby clash of the All Ireland Premier Junior and Intermediate champions.
The weather in the Netwatch Training Centre in Fenagh didn’t lend itself to a fast game of camogie but Kilkenny shot out of the traps and were 0-08 to 1-01 at half time.
However Kilkenny hit two more points in the second half and despite Carlows two points the Noresiders kept their head in front and saw out the game winners on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-03.
Elsewhere in the Leinster U16 B Championship, Carlow were well beaten by Dublin 3-12 to 0-05.
