Kilkenny face their most crucial test to date this Sunday when Cork come to Nowlan Park in the third round of the Allianz National Hurling League.
There have been a lot of vultures out in force as of late who are writing Kilkenny off completely and that is a very dangerous thing to do as we all well know.
They may be struggling, but they most definitely have a kick in them still and I think that may arrive on Sunday.
Having lost to Waterford and Clare, this really is a must win game for Brian Cody’s charges.
Cody has said that the potential of the Under-21 hurlers within the training panel is very promising.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s game, Brian says that he always has belief in the level of ability within the county.
“We probably have upwards of 10 of our Under-21 panel in there with us at the moment, and all I can see is very very good players and I would say the potential there is very very good as well.
“I was over at St. Kierans and the CBS as well as all Kilkenny players obviously and again there are some excellent players there and I have seen many many club matches as well at underage level. I always would have a huge belief in the level of ability that is within the county and that opinion of mine has not wavered one bit.” he said.
Cork have had mixed results in their campaign to date which began with victory over Clare in round 1, although the loss to Dublin in round 2 came as a surprise considering how poor the Dubs were in their opening day defeat to Tipperary.
What that point does confirm is that Division 1A is very unpredictable and results really do vary from week to week.
I would feel that on home ground and with a point to prove, Kilkenny will put in a more encouraging performance here and I think they will take the points on the day.
