Carlow Senior Football manager Turlough O’Brien says their main aim is to finish as high up the table in Division 4 of the National Football League as they possibly can.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s game away to Wicklow, Turlough says a third-placed finish in the table would represent real progress.
“Our aim is to try and finish as high up the table now as we can”, O’Brien said on Wednesday afternoon.
“Realistically promotion is gone but we think a third place finish would be real progress for Carlow having been bottom of the table only three or four years ago. So, we are in contention there with the top teams in the division and there is not much between those top three teams.”
We have already drawn (with) Westmeath and we still have to play Wexford so that would be a good benchmark for where we really are at.”
With Wicklow on the horizon this weekend, Carlow are taking nothing for granted.
“We have played a good game, and a bad game, and a good game, and a bad game and it’s a little bit frustrating. ”
“It’s more a mental thing than anything else. We just have to build confidence into players and the reality that you have got to perform every time you go out. You can’t take anything for granted.”
“Carlow is in no position to do that and good teams don’t do that. The Kilkenny’s in hurling and Dublin in football, they focus for every game and they are seldom caught.”
