Kilkenny United WFC spent Saturday evening on the road for a 6pm kick off at Eamon Deacy Park for the latest round of the Continental Tyres Women’s National League.

Considering the fact that Kilkenny travelled to the game without a single substitute, in comparison to Galway’s full complement of seven, Kilkenny may consider themselves unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

There were chances aplenty for both sides from the off, Bethany Carroll and Leanne Tumelty working well together in supplying balls into the box, Carroll coming up trumps with just over 20 minutes gone to feed Becky Conroy at the edge of the box and give Kilkenny the lead.

Barley a minute later, it was all square, Lynsey McKey picking up a neat ball inside the box from Aislinn Meaney to level the game and send the sides in 1-1 at half time.

Fresh legs for Galway took effect approaching the hour mark, substitute Rachel Baynes getting on the end of an Alina Cheatham cross to give the hosts a lead.

Reversing their roles from the first half, Kilkenny charged the Galway goal from the restart, Becky Conroy working possession from outside the back to fire past Tina Hughes and level the game for the second time.

With no reserves for Kilkenny to call upon, Galway capitalised late in the game, Aislinn Meaney teeing up Lynsey McKee to give the hosts the go-ahead goal with five minutes on the clock.

Full time Galway WFC 3, Kilkenny United WFC 2.
