Carlow Rugby’s loosehead prop Larry McGrath was voted Club Player of the Year for 2016/17 at last Saturday’s Carlow Presidents Dinner.
Speaking at the presentation of the award Club President Justin Hannon lauded Larry’s power and consistency in a forward pack that dominated in most of Carlow matches this season.
At the Dinner function other awards included;
Young Player of the Year – Sam Dunne
Junior 2 Player of the Year – Anthony Mannion
Junior 3 Player of the Year – Barry Waddock.
Ladies Player of the Year – Emily McKeown
Justin Hannon told the Dinner guests that he counted at least 170 volunteers who helped to run Carlow Rugby Club over the past season. Instead of nominating a single Club Person of the Year, this time around President Hannon concentrated on volunteer families who are making a huge voluntary contribution to Carlow rugby. He short listed five family groups as;-
– The Fitzhenrys
– The Cullens
– The Crottys
– The Brennans
– The Copes
From these he nominated the Brennans for the overall Club Family award citing Padraig’s contribution as Club Coach and his wife Muireann’s contribution as website and social media manager and producer of the weekly Newsletter.
