Evergreen manager Packie Holden has been speaking to KCLR ahead of this Sunday’s FAI Cup encounter with St. Mary’s of Cork, suggesting the game is the right preparation for their FAI Junior Cup Final next month.

Having secured a place in the Junior Cup final against Sheriff YC in the Aviva on 13 May, Evergreen have been rewarded with an FAI Senior Cup clash against St. Mary’s on the Kells Road this Sunday afternoon.

“St. Mary’s would be of a really high standard”, says Holden.

“Intermediate football in Cork is very strong so it should be a good game. We will probably use it as preparation for the Junior Cup Final in a couple of weeks.”

“Get past St. Mary’s and you’re in with the Dundalks, Derrys and the Cork Cities. It’s a game that we are looking forward to, it’s not a priority obviously. The reward for winning on Sunday will probably be a game in late June and maybe July, [this is] just preparation for the Junior Cup Final on the 13th of May.”

This week’s FAI Senior Cup fixtures are spread across the full weekend.

On Friday night, Bangor Celtic are at home to Cherry Orchard in the first of the weekend’s games. Saturday sees Edenderry Town face Cobh Wanderers, College Corinthians host Ballincollig, FAI Junior Cup finalists Sheriff YC head to Greystones United while semi-finalists Killarney Celtic and Boyle Celtic face off at 7pm in the Kingdom.

On Sunday, Ballymun United welcome Killester, Everton AFC take on Liffey Wanderers while Everygreen host St. Mary’s.
