The people have decided, the jury’s verdict is in and and first David Buggy Motors Kilkenny Sport Star Award for 2023 has a home.

Following submissions over the course of January and the final round of nominations before the new bank holiday weekend, the January David Buggy Motors Kilkenny Sport Star Award is going to Coláiste Abhainn Rí’s senior camogie team.

The Callan secondary school, an amalgamation of Coláiste Éamonn Rís Callan and St. Brigid’s, has been chipping away on the sporting front for this school year with the efforts on the camogie side leading to a Leinster post-primary title, an All-Ireland quarter-final victory and ultimately a place in the All-Ireland semi-finals that would be played out over the bank holiday weekend.

It’s evident that the work going by players, teachers, and mentors both on and off the field is paying off so we’re delighted to announce Coláiste Abhainn Rí’s senior camogie team as the first of this year’s winners.

We’ll be catching up with the school and team in the next week or so to hear how things have been progressing on the camogie front and see what else is stirring for the school on the sports scene.

Nominations for the February round of the award will open on Monday 20 February.
