Kilkenny City Harriers chairman John Maye has encouraged all those who have taken up running during this lockdown to check out different athletics club.
Their annual streets of Kilkenny 5km was due to take place in April this year, was then pushed to August but that had to be pushed back again to 2021. John is hopeful that with everyone now taking up various different running challenges, that the increase in interest in running will help the event, although the permit is generally just for 1000 people. So register early!
The club itself is back in a limited form. Athletics Ireland announced that in accordance with specific government guidelines all clubs can return to limited activity from Monday 18th May. A long layoff for the athletes resulted in an easing back into training, however the return of the sport has been putting smiles on club members faces
Speaking with KCLR John said “We are delighted we have been able to cater to our over 18 and senior athletes, its been a great success and the watershed has done a fine job preparing the facility. There was a really good atmosphere and the athletes were thrilled to be on the track.”
