Bennettsbridge GAA are to host the first Johnny McGovern senior hurling tournament this Saturday and they’re rolling out the big guns.
Along with themselves, they’ll have current senior club All-Ireland champions Ballygunner on the pitch, along with Limerick champions Kilmallock with Thurles Sarsfields joining the action on Saturday also.
As a format, it’s a four-team tournament being held in the honour of Bennettsbridge and Kilkenny great Johnny McGovern who passed earlier this year.
Along with memorabilia of Johnny’s career on display, there’s a monster hurling raffle being planned and refreshments across the day.
Two semi-finals will be held at 2pm and 3.15pm (halves are shorter given the number of games) with a shield final booked for 4.30pm and the tournament final, for the Johnny McGovern Cup, booked for 5.30pm
