Kilkenny United WFC’s Bethany Carroll collected her KCLR & David Buggy Motors Kilkenny Sport Star Award for the month of August when at the time she topped the public polls ahead of Dublin senior camogie boss David Herity and Waterford FC’s John Martin. Title sponsor David Buggy was on hand to present the award.

“I’m very thrilled”, said Caroll on collect the August prize. “It’s been a tough year really with Kilkenny, we haven’t been great really. We’ve stepped up in some games but it’s a pleasure to win the award against such great other people.”

United have indeed had a tough season in the Womens National League, with three changes of manager across the season, changes of home venue during the season, heavy injuries, and just the one win to their name in a league campaign that has proved testing.

“We are moving in the right direction. Hopefully next year we’ll get up the league table and compete.”

Around the time of her award nomination, Carroll had been rewarded with trials for the Ireland U19’s.

“The trials went very well. I’m glad to be on standby even though I’m under eighteen and hopefully next year I’ll be able to get into the team and the starting eleven. I’ve been there since U15s and the whole way up and I’m just honoured to be playing for my country.”

“I started playing with Piltown when I was six and I’ve been playing the whole way up. I played with the girls from six to sixteen and played with the boys from under nines up to under thirteens and fifteens. I had the opportunity to move to Kilkenny to play National League and couldn’t say no. It would be great to go to England and play at that level but you’ve got to be scouted first before you get over.”

Kilkenny United finish their league season under the lights this Saturday with a home clash against Shelbourne Ladies.
