Limerick forward Shane Dowling has announced his retirement from intercounty hurling.
The 2018 All-Ireland winner has been forced to call it a day at the age of 27 due to a persistent knee injury.
Dowling released a statement on Twitter to say that being forced to halt his career at such a young age is “heart-breaking”, and that he “can hardly believe this is happening”.
Dowling retires as a two-time Munster title winner, scoring 21-292 in just 59 league and championship games for his county, and was Limerick’s super-sub during their All-Ireland run in 2018, coming off the bench to score goals in both their semi-final and final wins, as they ended a 45-year wait for Liam McCarthy
I can’t believe I have to do this, but I have some memories! 💚💚 pic.twitter.com/cXfqUNY2ru
