Kilkenny hurling has been dealt a blow with the news that James Maher has been ruled out of action for the rest of the year.
The St Lachtains man was injured in a farmyard accident this week fracturing his knee.
He burst onto the scene this year with the Senior hurlers and featured in a number of league games during the campaign.
A member of the extended Black & Amber panel last year, the St Lachtains clubman exploded onto the senior inter county stage in February when producing a Man of the Match display as arch rivals Tipperary were defeated in Division 1A of the national hurling league.
Manager Brian Cody has been quoted as saying “James got a serious injury. He fractured his kneecap in an accident at home on the farm, so he’s really unfortunate. He’s going to be out obviously for a while.”
