Brazilian football icon Pele revisited hospital this week for a scheduled procedure concerning his colon tumor treatment but will return to home comforts for Christmas, according to his daughter Kely Nascimento.
Widely considered as one of the greatest soccer players of all-time, Pele was admitted to Hospital Albert Einstein in the city of Sao Paulo on Wednesday where he underwent an operation to remove the tumor three months ago.
The three-time World Cup winner remained in hospital for a month following the operation and has been undergoing chemotherapy ever since.
“In two or three days he will be back home to enjoy Christmas,” his daughter said on Instagram. “This was not a surprise. It was already scheduled and is part of the treatment.”
The former Santos and New York Cosmos star has had serious health issues over the last number of years, including the need for hip surgery that left him requiring help while walking.
However, he revealed on social media platform Twitter in November that he was feeling better every day.
