Ah the Tailteann Cup, the competition that people are still uncertain of – at least in this year’s guise – but try telling that to the the division three and four footballing counties that are in it are very much committed.

It was ideal conditions for football in Netwatch Dr. Cullen Park and Niall Carew’s men put in a tremendous performance outscoring their opponents by 2 points, despite Tipperary coming into this game as favorites.
Having lost by eleven to them in the league, Carlow had the beating of Tipperary ran out 1-12 to 1-10 winners, and booked a place in this year’s quarter-final.

Carlow Captain Darragh Foley was pleased with how his side responded after making a poor start to the game.
“I was very pleased with how we bounced back after the first ten to fifteen minutes, we kicked a lot of wides. A lot of chances went a-begging.”
“It would of being easy for lads to drop their heads and say today isn’t our day, but we kept plugging away, getting right back into it. Niall Hickey got a great goal”

“We knew we were the better team, we were way ahead of them in terms of sprints, we just wanted to put that on the scoreboard and we did that in the second half.”
Carlow will now take on Westmeath at Netwatch Cullen Park this weekend in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Tailteann Cup.
