Carlow Senior Hurling Manager Colm Bonnar says the Squad are an ambitious bunch who want to achieve greater things.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of this evening’s clash away to Dublin in Parnell Park, Colm says their is belief within the squad that they can reach the Quarter-Final stages.
“They are very ambitious and they want to really test themselves and they want see how far they can go” said Colm.
“Like any team in 1B, we shouldn’t be in 1B if our ambition wasn’t to get to a League Quarter-Final and that will be the same for the 5 teams that are there. All the 5 teams believe that’s a minimum in terms of where they need to be so that’s our first starting point”.
Commenting on what it takes he said “We are just totally focused on the League at the moment because there is such a gap between the League and there is nearly a 9 or 10 week gap between the League and Championship that you just have to make sure there is steady improvement week to week, and just see where we are standing at the end of the League then. We evaluate and see what we need to do for Championship”.
Meanwhile Carlow Senior Hurling Defender David English says they have stepped up the intensity of training in recent weeks.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of this evening’s game, David expects them to be a lot sharper this evening with the extra training.
“The breaks between the Walsh Cup and the start of the League, we were trying to get a couple of things right”.
He said “I suppose we were trying to get our hurling nailed down, as before Christmas, our hurling wasn’t the best as was the case with a lot of teams, but in recent weeks there has been an awful lot of fast hurling drills kind of after moving away from the fitness side of things and the strength and conditioning somewhat”.
“Having said that, it’s going quite well and the lads are looking forward to getting stuck into Dublin”.
We have live commentary of the game on our Carlow Frequencies tonight.
